Nepal Devastating Floods and Landslides-2026

The devastating floods and mudslides in Rasuwa District, northern Nepal, on August 26, 2026, caused widespread loss of life and extensive destruction of homes, property, and critical infrastructure. The sudden glacier collapse and resulting debris flow triggered a massive surge through the Bhote Koshi River system, inundating Timure, Rasuwagadhi, and surrounding settlements and affecting communities in several districts. Hundreds have lost their lives, while thousands remain missing or displaced.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Nepal, as of August 30, 734 people have died and more than 2,400 people remain missing. As families and communities begin the difficult journey toward recovery, there is an urgent need for prayers, compassion, and humanitarian assistance.

Search and rescue efforts continue to face severe challenges due to damaged roads and bridges, difficult terrain, and ongoing weather hazards. The immediate priorities are to locate and rescue missing persons and provide shelter, food, water, and medical assistance to affected communities. Youth volunteers from the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization are already on the ground, working to provide relief and support to the affected communities as early as possible.
